Helping Family Businesses
Prosper Across Generations®

One of the most challenging and heartbreaking issues we see in many family firms is if and when to confront a loved one over an “addiction” -- alcohol, drugs, spending, etc. The inner turmoil is incredible.

As Parent As Grandparent
I can't accept my child's behavior. It is being repeated over and over---where do I draw the line? Is it my role to invade the lives and families of my children and their children?
I want to help my child. I need to take action. If I don't, how can I live with myself? I don't want to enable my child's destructive behavior. But what if I push my child over the edge? What if they take my grandchildren away from me? Or worse yet, as parents turned angry by my confrontation, will they hurt their kids?

Some even worry as “owners.” Will the person I confront start voting against me? On the other hand, am I risking the lives of others I love just to preserve current shareholder support?

Our advice is simple: Please see a professional therapist as soon as possible. Don’t put off the search for advice just because you don’t want to hear what you don’t want to face.
