Claire Barner

Claire is the Director of Business Operations at The Family Business Consulting Group, leading financials, IT, HR, legal, and risk management. As a member of the leadership team, Claire contributes to short- and long-term planning efforts and supports financial performance through efficiency and cost management. Claire values strong, collaborative relationships, and works closely with internal business leaders to champion organizational methodologies, integrated systems, and a strong culture, while advocating for a culture of fiscal responsibility and risk mitigation.

Prior to joining FBCG, Claire was the Director of Operations at the Financial Health Network where she led technology strategy, legal and insurance operations, facilities management, and administrative processes. In her role, she devised technology strategies to address current and future organizational needs, and managed relationships with outside legal counsel to mitigate risks, control costs, and secure high-quality service. Claire also supported the Board of Directors on strategic and governance oversight, engagement, and administrative initiatives.

Claire’s early career was focused on advancing the well-being of low-income families and communities. She started her career as a 5th grade teacher on Chicago’s West Side and worked at the social service non-profit Youth Outreach Services supporting programming for teenagers and young adults facing addiction, incarceration, and homelessness. Claire currently leads the parent engagement group at her children’s school and is committed to enhancing equity at Chicago Public Schools.

Education

Claire earned a master’s degree in Teaching and bachelor’s degree in Public Policy at the University of Chicago.

Personal

Claire is a science-fiction writer, enthusiastic vegetable gardener, and avid reader. Claire lives in the Portage Park community in Chicago with her husband and three children.
